google adsense geld verdienen

Build an Empire?

When you’re deciding to become a website publisher you will fall into one of two broad categories:
  • Publish 100 websites that each earn $1 a day profit
  • Publish 1 website that earns $100 a day profit
The reality of it is, most people end up somewhere in between. Having 100 websites leaves you with maintenance, management and content issues. Having one website leaves you open to all sort of fluctuations (search engines algorithm’s, market trends, etc). You can adapt your plan on the way, but you’ll have an easier time if you start out going in the direction of where you want to end up.

General or Niche

You can build your website around general topics or niche ones. Generally speaking niche websites work better with adsense. First off the ad targeting is much better. Secondly as you have a narrow focus your writing naturally becomes more expert in nature. Hopefully this makes you more authority in your field.
If this is your first try at building an adsense website, make it about something you enjoy. It will make the process much easier and less painful to accomplish. You should however make sure that your topic has enough of an ad inventory and the payout is at a level you are comfortable with. You may love medieval folk dancing, but the pool of advertisers for that subject is very small (in fact it’s currently zero).

Once you’ve gotten the hang of how Adsense works on a website, you are going to want to dabble in some high paying keywords, you may even be tempted to buy a high paying keyword list. This does come with some dangers. First off the level of fraud is much higher on the big money terms. Secondly there is a distortion of the supply and demand relationship for these terms. Everyone wants ads on their website that make $35 or more a click, however the number of advertisers who are willing to pay that much is pretty limited. Additionally the competition for that traffic is going to be stiff. So, don’t try to run with the big dogs if you can’t keep up. If you have to ask if you’re a big dog, then chances are, you’re not. I have used a high dollar keywords report from cashkeywords.com and was pleased with my results (see cash keywords free offer recap).

New Sites, Files and Maintenance

When you’re building a new site don’t put adsense on it until it’s finished. In fact I’d go even farther and say don’t put adsense on it until you have built inbound links and started getting traffic. If you put up a website with “lorem ipsum” dummy or placeholder text, your adsense ads will almost certainly be off topic. This is often true for new files on existing websites, especially if the topic is new or different. It may take days or weeks for google’s media bot to come back to your page and get the ads properly targeted. TIP: If you start getting lots of traffic from a variety of IP’s you will speed this process up dramatically.

I like to build my sites using include files. I put the header, footer and navigation in common files. It makes it much easier to maintain and manage. I also like to put my adsense code in include files. If I want/need to change my adsense code, it’s only one file I have to work with. TIP: I also use programming to turn the adsense on or off. I can change one global variable to true or false and my adsense ads will appear or disappear.

Managing URL’s and channels

Adsense channels is one area where it’s really easy to go overboard with stats. You can set up URL channels to compare how one website is doing to another. You can also set up sub channels for each URL. If you wanted to you do something channels like this:
  • domain1.com – 728 banner
  • domain1.com – 336 block
  • domain1.com – text link
  • domain2.com – 728 banner
  • domain2.com – image banner
  • domain2.com – 336 block
  • domain3.com – 300 block
While this is great for testing and knowing who clicks where and why, it makes your reporting a little wonky. Your total number will always be correct but when you look at your reports with a channel break down things will get displayed multiple times and not add up to correct total. Makes things pretty confusing, so decide if you really need/want that level of reporting detail. TIP: At the very least you want to know what URL is generating the income so be sure to enter distinct URL channels.

Site Design and Integration

Once you know you are going to put adsense on your website you’re going to have to consider where to put it. If this is new site it’s easier, if it’s an existing site it’s more difficult. While there are some people who will be able to do it, in most cases I’d say if you just slap the adsense code in, you’ll end up with a frankensite monster (props to Tedster of WMW for the buzzword). While every website is different, Google has published some heat maps showing the optimal locations. No surprise that the best spots are middle of the page and left hand side. Now I’ve done really well by placing it on the right, but you should know why you’re doing it that way before hand, and be prepared to change it if it doesn’t work out.
Google has also has published a list of the highest performing ad sizes:
  • 336×280 large rectangle
  • 300×250 inline rectangle
  • 160×600 wide skyscraper
From the sites that I run, I do really well with the 336 rectangle and 160 skyscraper. My next best performing ad size is the 728 leaderboard, I don’t really use the 300 inline rectangle too often. So really it depends on how well you integrate these into your site. Placement can have a dramatic effect on performance. TIP: When working on a new site or new layout you may want to give each location it’s own channel for a little while until you understand the users behavior.

Another ‘trick’ that can increase your CTR is by blending your adsense into your body copy. For example if your body copy is black, remove the adsense border and make the title, text, and URL black.TIP: Try changing all of your page hyperlinks to a high contrast color (like dark red or a bold blue) then change the adsense title to the same color.

The one area where I’ve found blended ads don’t perform as well is forums, especially ones with a high volume of repeat members. Regular visitors develop banner blindness pretty quickly. One ‘trick’ to keep the ads from being ignored is to randomize the color and even the placement. As with any of the decisions about location, placement and color it’s a trade off. How much do you emphasize the ads without annoying your visitors. Remember it’s better to have a 1% CTR with 500 regular visitors as opposed to a 5% CTR with 50 visitors. TIP: For forums try placing the adsense ads directly above or below the the first forum thread.

Using Images

One of the latest ‘secrets’ to make the rounds is using images placed directly above or below an adsense leaderboard. This has been used for a while but came out in a digital point forum thread where a member talked about quadrupling their CTR. Basically you set up the adsense code in a table with four images that line up directly with the ads. Whether or not this is deceptive is fuzzy and very subjective. Obviously four blinking arrows would be ‘enticing people to click’ and be against the adsense TOS. However placing pictures of 4 laptops over laptops ads isn’t, so use your best judgment here and look at it from the advertiser or Google’s perspective. If you have a question as to your implementation being ‘over the line’ write to adsense and ask them to take a look.

As far as using the images, I’ve done it and can tell you it definitely works. You get the best results when the images ‘complete the story the ads are telling’. For example if you have ads about apple pies, use pictures of freshly baked apple pies, instead of granny smith, Macintosh, pink lady, and braeburn apples. TIP: Don’t limit yourself to using images only on that size ad unit, it works just as well with the other sizes, like the 336 rectangle.

Added:
I got a little criticizm for this and rightly so, as I wasn’t specific as I could have been. Do not use very identifiable brand name or products for your images. Use generic non-specific stock images whenever possible and appropriate.

Multiple Ad Units

Another way to increase ad revenue is to use multiple ad units. According to Google’s TOS you are allowed to post up to three ad units per page. Similar to standard search results the highest paying ad units will be served first and the lowest being served last. If there is enough of an ad inventory, place all three ad units. However you should pay attention to the payouts. Current assumption is you get 60% of the revenue (on a $0.05 click you get $0.03). So if a click from the third ad unit is only paying between 3 to 5 cents you may want to omit it from your page. This is one are where giving your ad units channels does have value. If one ad unit is getting a higher percentage of click throughs you’ll want to make sure the highest paying ads are being served there. TIP:Use CSS positioning to get your highest paying ads serving in the location with the highest CTR.

Adsense in RSS

With the growth of blogs and RSS feeds you’re starting to see adsense included in the feeds now. IMHO this doesn’t work, and here’s why:
  • You only get to place one ad unit.
  • You have no control over finding the ‘sweet spot’ for the ad unit.
  • The ads are usually poorly targeted (this is getting better).
  • People develop ‘banner blindness’.
I know people like being able to read full postings in their feed reader, and there are at least a dozen other reasons for full posts from pleasing your users to mobile offline computing, all of which are completely valid. However if your website depends on generating adsense revenue to survive, then bring them to the site and show them the ads there.

Affiliate Sites

Placing Adsense on affiliate sites is tricky. Are you giving up a $10, $20, or $30 sale for a $1 click? This is something you have to test on your own to figure out. If you aren’t converting now it’s definitely worth a try. I like to use adsense on my article pages. For example let’s say you had an affiliate website where you sold shoes. You’re going to need some related articles to ‘flesh out’ the site. Things like ‘getting a shoe shine’ or ‘finding a shoe repair shop’ these are excellent spots for adsense. While you won’t get rich, they will usually provide a small steady income and cover things like hosting costs.TIP: If you find you have pages getting more than 50 clicks per month add more pages about this topic, and link the pages together. Mine you logs for the search terms used.

PPC Arbitrage

This is a dicey subject so I’m going to steer clear of precise examples. Basically you bid on low volume uber niche terms at a very low cost. You set up landing page that contains high payout ads for the related general topic. You are looking for terms with a large gap between the price you are bidding on adwords and the price you are getting on Adsense. If you pay $0.10 a click and get $1.00 a click you make $0.90 each click. To get your adsense ad approved you will need to ‘add some value’ along the way. You can make a killing or get taken to the cleaners with this one, so make sure you know what you are doing before you try it.
Have any other adsense tips, tricks or secrets? Drop me an email and let me know, I’ll give you credit.

Sticker shock: Joey Votto, Matt Cain deals alter landscape

The Cincinnati Reds ruined the Los Angeles Dodgers' plans to grab All-Star first baseman Joey Votto in free agency, and the San Francisco Giants assured they'll be hanging onto at least one of their aces.
Votto agreed to a 10-year, $225 million extension Monday that will keep him in Cincinnati through 2023, a person familiar with the talks told USA TODAY Sports, while Matt Cain signed a five-year, $112.5 million extension.

Votto received the largest contract ever given to a player not eligible for free agency, and the fourth-largest in MLB history. Cain merely became the richest right-handed pitcher in baseball history.
The deals sent shock waves throughout baseball, knowing there are huge repercussions ahead.
"There will be an impact, I'm sure,'' Brewers GM Doug Melvin told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "Any signing impacts other people who haven't signed.''

This is why two pitchers celebrating Monday right along with Cain were Cole Hamels of the Philadelphia Phillies and Zack Greinke of the Milwaukee Brewers. They are each eligible for free agency after the season's conclusion. And now, after Cain's deal, their price-tags soared like a Warren Buffett stock.
""Obviously, the economics of the game is starting to change what they're paying elite players,'' said veteran agent John Boggs, who represents Hamels. "I'm very happy for Matt Cain. And it's indicative of what an impact player can be compensated with, and he's a controlled player.''

If Cain is worth $126.5 million over six years, with his new contract superseding his old one_ including a $21 million vesting option in 2018_what in the name of Donald Trump is Hamels now worth on the open market?
Cain may be one of the premier right-handed pitchers in the National League, but he's just 69-73 with a 3.35 ERA, pitching in cavernous AT&T Park, and in the National League West.

Hamels is one of the game's finest left-handed pitchers, and is 74-54 with a 3.39 ERA, pitching in a bandbox called Citizens Park, and in the NL East. He also has five consecutive years of postseason experience, let alone trophies as the MVP of the 2008 World Series and League Championship Series.

The Phillies, who were hoping to somehow sign Hamels to a four-year deal worth about $80 million, are further away than ever from signing a contract extension with Hamels. If he's is not signed by the season's conclusion, the Phillies may be battling the likes of the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs for Hamel's services.
Cha-ching.

Greinke, who doesn't even have an agent, certainly is shrewd enough to figure out the comps himself when negotiating with the Brewers. He could only smile and says, "We'll see,'' when asked about the potential impact.
And, of course, the ultimate free agent pitcher should be on the open market in two years: Cain's teammate, two-time Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum. He's already earning $40 million over the next two years, and rejected an extension of more than $100 million last winter.
If salaries keep escalating like this, Lincecum will be using Cain's salary for his Golden Gate Bridge toll change.

Contemporary African Art from the Harmon Foundation

Introduction

The contemporary art of Africa eludes generalized description. Artists have utilized various mediums, from oils to silk screening, and methods varying from brass casting by the ancient lost wax process to welding tin cans and other metals into sculpture. Traditionalists like Lamidi Fakeye produce sculpture and wood carvings based on classical African designs. A larger group works in the more modern styles of cubism, expressionism, and surrealism, while others seek a purely personal style. Many African artists were trained at European and American schools; others feel that they can achieve truly African expression only in their native surroundings. In Nigeria, for example, the national artistic tradition is strong and pervasive, even though obscured by the effects of European colonialism and Christian and Moslem religious zeal. In many other countries, traditional art very nearly succumbed under these forces. Thus a contemporary artwork is classified as African purely on the basis of the artist's nationality, rather than according to a peculiar style, subject, purpose, or medium.

The Harmon Foundation, a nonprofit, private foundation active from 1922 to 1967, helped foster an awareness of African art. Although its initial projects were funding parks and playgrounds and providing student loans, the foundation's flexible structure lent itself to support for a wide range of activities, including art. The foundation's interest in contemporary African art grew rather spontaneously. Its initial contact with Africa came through three series of motion pictures commissioned by the foundation in the 1930's on native life and tribal customs and the work of Christian missions in Africa. Although art was not selected as a focal point, the films depicted a culture built around folkcrafts; houses, furnishings, cooking utensils, and clothing were all handcrafted from local materials. Art, in a broad sense, had always been an integral part of African life. By the mid-1940s a few artists, aware of the films and the foundation's work with black American artists and anxious to create a market for their artworks in the United States, began sending their work to the New York offices. General interest was slow to develop. Connoisseurs of art seemed to see the African work not as serious, creative effort, but as sociological commentary on modern Africa. This view became particularly apparent in 1950, when the foundation had difficulty finding an established gallery for an exhibit by Ben Enwonwu, a leading Nigerian artist whose work had been successfully shown in England.

As a result of these early experiences, a strong relationship developed between the African artists, the foundation, and the American art community. More and more artists became aware of the foundation as a contact point and more frequently shipped artworks to the United States for exhibit and sale. The foundation became conscious of the substantial lack of appreciation for contemporary African art and of its own potential role in promoting intercultural understanding. By 1967 it was well established as a liaison between the artists and interested groups. With the cooperation of the Merton Simpson Gallery in New York and a few university galleries, it arranged several one-man shows and numerous general exhibits. After 6 years of research, it published "Africa's Contemporary Art and Artists", a descriptive compilation of artists in sub-Saharan Africa. In addition, the staff collected black and white prints and color slides of nearly 2,500 artworks. The Harmon Foundation's role had mushroomed from a latent, remote interest to leadership in the field of contemporary African art.

When the foundation ended its activities in 1967, it donated to the National Archives its entire collection of motion pictures, filmstrips, color slides, and black and white prints and negatives on a variety of subjects. The following selection, arranged alphabetically by name of artist, from the "Artworks by African Artists" series, is a representative sample of the work of some of the artists in the collection. An inclusive list of artists in this series is available upon request.

Many photographs from the Harmon Foundation are not listed in this leaflet. Separate inquiries about other photographs should be as specific as possible listing names, dates, places, events, and other details.

Three simple actions that doubled my website traffic in 30 days

I started the PC Doctor blog in May of 2005 and for the first few months my traffic was really low – down in the few hundreds of visitors a day. It was pretty depressing I can tell you and there were times when I thought about quitting.  I knew that the site was in the Google ‘sandbox’ and so I either had to keep on plugging at it until it was out or I had to give up.
Fortunately, I decided to keep on posting but in the interim I decided that I was also going to do my utmost to drive traffic to my site manually until Google kicked in. I took a look around at what some of the successful blogs were doing and came up with three tactics that helped to double my website traffic in a month.
  1. First, I made the most of Technorati tags.  I tagged every key word in each of my posts. Initially I did this manually but them I discovered a WordPress plugin called SimpleTags that made the job a whole lot easier. I found that by tagging my post effectively they were getting a lot more attention then their untagged counterparts, and as an added advantage I was getting focused, quality traffic to the site!
  2. I leveraged my existing website.  I’ve been running my business website for a few years and that was getting modest levels of traffic that was relevant to my blog – so why not try to drive some of that to my new blog! I placed a few FeedBurner headline animator blocks on some of my most popular pages and after a day or so I noticed a significant increase in traffic for 5 minutes worth of work on my part.
  3. Finally, I made effective use of trackback links to popular sites. If I commented on a post on another site I would make sure that I set up the appropriate trackback for it. The results from this are varied depending on the site and post that you are linking to but since I liked to comment and interact with the wider blogosphere anyway, it was free traffic!
Using these three simple techniques, I took The PC Doctor blog from a few hundred hits a day into the thousands in less than 30 days. This kept my interest in the site until it came out of the Google sandbox and I started to receiver some serious traffic. However, I’m convinced that these actions I took at the early stages have helped me create a loyal and targeted readership that continues to benefit my blog today.

How to Do 500 Times Better than AdSense

Right around a year ago now, I made my first cent online. It was literally a cent — $0.01 — and it showed up in my Google AdSense account after a certain number of people had viewed an ad for dog food or a shiatsu massager or whatever on my old humor blog.
That first cent was exciting, because it proved that you really could make money online in the way it seemed that everyone said you could — by creating sites populated with ads, and then sitting back and letting the earnings pile up. Then, if the gurus were to be believed, it was only a matter of time before I would be living in Hawaii, while bikini girls used the Mona Lisa to wax my Lamborghini.

So I read a ton about how to use AdSense, took a few courses, and built a bunch of little search-engine-optimized niche websites. I worked and worked and built and built, and eventually I amassed a couple dozen of these little moneymakers.
Slowly, visitors began to come to my sites, click on the expensive Google ads for lawyers and insurance, and make me some money. Then, reasonably content with my Google army, I put those sites on “set it and forget it” mode (like a Ronco Rotisserie) and started something new.

A different way to do it

Specifically, in April of last year, I started the Johnny B. Truant biz. The business model basically consisted of trying to write funny blog posts and generally just hanging out online, and then parlaying that good will into its logical succession, which is, of course, technology services.
I worked very hard, but it didn’t feel like work — especially compared to what I had been doing on the niche sites. It felt like being an amiable jackass in the right places, and meeting people, and kind of screwing around. Eventually it also started to feel like building a business, but that happened slowly and by degrees.
Nine months passed, with both venues making me money in their own unique way.
At the end of 2009, I recorded my second five-figure month in the JBT technology biz, after building between eighty and a hundred blogs for clients in December.
And at around the same time, I got my first ever AdSense check from Google. It was for $111.

The best way to “make money online” is probably not what you think.

Spend a few minutes Googling around for ways to make money online. Go ahead; I’ll wait.
If you didn’t do that search just now, it’s probably because you’ve tried it before and already knew what you would find. Almost every site, course, and guru out there will tell you that to make money online, you should sign up for AdSense (or maybe for a large advertiser’s affiliate program), rustle up some long-tail keywords, and start gaming Google traffic.
I’m not going to tell you that doesn’t work . . . but I am going to tell you that it didn’t work for me, and that it’s unlikely to work for you if you’re even one iota like me.
Here’s why I don’t like the AdSense strategy as a business model:
  1. It’s not a business model. Any time you can talk about “monetization,” you’re probably not talking about a real business because “monetizing” a business is redundant. “Monetizing” is slapping a moneymaker on top of something that doesn’t naturally produce income. The way that 99.99% of people dive into AdSense, they’re simply putting something out there and waiting for the dollars to roll in. There is no real planning, no accounting forecasts, no intention down the road to improve workflow or expand offerings or enlarge the sales funnel, no exploiting the best abilities of yourself and partners to create benefit for others.
  2. It doesn’t add value. Technicalities aside, there is no real product or service in the way most AdSense “make money online” campaigns are run. There is simply arbitrage. You’re not increasing widget sales; you’re trying to make sure more of the existing sales will occur through your ads. I learned my lesson trying to play the stock market (and failing) and then investing in real estate (and failing at an epic level): Sustainable incomes come from using your talents to create value for others, not from gambling and playing the numbers.
  3. It contradicts the way the Net is supposed to work. Yes, yes, I know . . . some people blog in a heartfelt manner about cabinetry and run cabinetry ads, and visitors click them to buy cabinets and the site owner makes money. But most AdSense strategies are all about gaming the system. When I was creating insurance niche sites, I couldn’t have cared less about insurance. I was simply trying to draw traffic away from the legit insurance sites so that people would click on my ads instead of finding an insurance company a different way. That’s not the way that the Web is supposed to work . . . which is to efficiently connect the searcher and what she’s searching for.
  4. It’s anonymous. Few “make money online” strategies will tell you to blog under your own name, include your own picture, and make a big deal about being the guy or gal who created this site. In fact, I spent a lot of my time trying to obscure who I was. Many courses even tell you to use hosting that will generate random, non-sequential IP addresses for each site, so that even Google won’t know that one person owns them all. Anonymity conflicts directly with what I consider to be the most important reasons for my success, which are honesty, authenticity, trust-building, and transparency.

You can do better, no matter who you are

I worked really, really, really hard on those AdSense sites. I worked 15-hour days; I wrote keyword-laced post after keyword-laced post; I entered them in article directories and put them through social media bulk submitters; I launched site after site, tweaked, customized, and researched.
And by doing that, I made $111 in a year.
Maybe I didn’t work hard enough. Maybe I used the wrong system. Maybe, if someone else had done it, they might have done it twice as well. And maybe that same person would have done it for three times as long as I did, building sites for the whole year instead of only doing it for four months.
So yeah, maybe that super-ambitious person might have made $888.
Now, stop and think about that for a second.
Anyone who doesn’t believe that they could start a business today, being themselves, playing to their own strengths, and creating value for others, and not make more than $888 in a year should . . . well, those people should really just stop reading about business right now.
Am I saying that you can’t use AdSense to make money online? No. Am I saying that every “system” for striking it rich on the Net — like creating anonymous niche sites that use AdWords ads to draw traffic to affiliate products — is an impossible scam? No.
I’m just saying that the average person is probably going to have better luck building a real business. Meaning:
  • One that you can stand behind publicly.
  • One that’s based on helping others in exchange for pay.
  • One that benefits from being a real, authentic person.
  • One that matches your best abilities to the needs of others.
This Third Tribe thing? This new internet era of being real and honest and open in business and marketing rather than relying on tricks, games, yellow-highlighted text, and the hard sell? It’s real, folks. And at least for me, using that approach turned my Google earnings into an afterthought.

TODAY'S AdSense Payout Theory

1. Bid amount is most important - first, the money must be there.

2. The V factor - Google's perceived Value of the page -
---> Analyze SERP position for value to AdWords advertiser
---> Analyze Click-Thru-Rate for value to AdWords advertiser

3. Impressions - Raw volume - Increase traffic

4. High CTR = High Value to Google and the AdWords customer
(Now you are ready for high-paying TOP AD delivery).

5. Premium (high-volume) AdWords customers get special deals.

High SERP + high volume + high CTR = Gravy.
The gravy goes to the top performers, in a merit-based system.
The way that it SHOULD work, right?

The Google AdSense For Domains Alternative: Google Adsense For Search vs. Domain Parking Providers

Google notified publishers using Adsense for Domains of their plan to discontinue their Adsense for Domains program for parked domains. Domainers are scrambling to find a replacement to monetize their parked domains. The answer: Adsense For Search.
Warrior Forum member and Internet Marketer Neeraj Sachdeva released a new WSO (Warrior Special Offer) that web publishers are using to boost their Google Adsense revenue significantly. Neeraj stated: "... people who apply his system will be able to easily double their Adsense income with little effort by using a simple and little-known white-hat trick." The system is perfect for parked domains since it is in compliance with Google Adsense policy and terms of use.

While it is unclear as to whether the Adsense For Domains program made owners of domains any more money than parked page ads like those shown by godaddy.com and other domain parking providers, Neeraj's WSO clearly shows that higher earnings are possible with the alternate Google program. For full details see: http://www.goinfosystem.com/wso/news11c-adsense4search

The Google AdSense for Domains allowed advertisements to be placed on domain names that have not been developed yet or are parked. This gave domain name owners a way to monetize domain names that would otherwise be dormant or inactive. AdSense for domains was being offered to all AdSense publishers, but it wasn't available to everyone until 2008. Another AdSense program offering, AdSense for search, allows website owners to place Google Custom Search boxes on their websites. When a visitor searches the website with the search box, Google shares 51% of the advertising revenue it makes from those searches with the website owner. However the publisher is paid only if the advertisements on the page are clicked; AdSense does not pay publishers for regular searches. Web publishers have reported that they also pay a range from $0.64 to $0.88 per click. (Reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AdSense)

The message announcing the discontinuation of the Adsense for Domains program was as follows:

We’re contacting you because you’re using AdSense for Domains to monetize your undeveloped domains. After evaluating the benefits of our partner network, we’ve decided to retire the Hosted domains product within AdSense. Going forward, undeveloped domains will only be served through our existing AdSense for Domains distribution network.

Our records show that __ of your Hosted domains will be affected by this upcoming change, which will follow the schedule below:

March 21: You’ll no longer be able to create new Hosted domains

April 18: Hosted domains will become inactive and it’ll no longer be possible to earn from them

June 27: Hosted domains will no longer be available in AdSense accounts

To continue monetizing your undeveloped domains, you can migrate your domain portfolio to any domain parking provider. Find out how in our Migration Guide:

Please note that this upcoming change won’t affect any other AdSense products you’re currently using or the availability of other products to you. In addition, reporting on your Hosted domains will remain available throughout the schedule above and for a period following the retirement.

For more information see the Help Center. We appreciate your understanding and thank you for your patience as we continue to develop new features and offerings within AdSense.

How to find the highest CPC keywords from Google

One of the most important steps in selecting a new niche or trying to increase your adsense earnings is to understand what the highest cost-per-click (CPC) keywords are for your niche.   It’s important to know these high paying keywords, so that you can target them by writing useful, but targeted content involving the keywords.  This will have a dramatic effect on your Google Adsense earnings.

Let’s say you average 500 unique visitors per day.  If your site averages $0.10 per click, and you receive 20 clicks on your Adsense units per day, you’ll be receiving $2.00 per day in revenue.  There are three ways to increase your revenue per day 1) Increase your traffic 2) Increase your click through rate or 3) Increase the CPC received.  We are going to concentrate on the third option, which is increasing the CPC.  Let’s say we can target higher paying keywords, and the average CPC increases to $0.20.  Without any other variables changing you are going to make $4.00 per day, which is a 100% increase in revenue.

Follow these steps to utilize the Google Keyword Tool to hunt for the highest paying CPC keywords from Google:

1) Visit the Google Keyword Tool at http://www.google.com/sktool/.  You should also have a Google Adwords account, as this link will now redirect you to the latest keyword tool included within Google Adwords.  The new link is http://adwords.google.com/keywordtool.
You should see a screen similar to the image below…
Highest Paying CPC Keywords for Google Adsense

2)Enter the captcha information (in the image it’s theories. cactua), and click search so that the captcha goes away
3) You see the categories listed on the left hand side of the window?  You should have some idea about what type of Google Adsense site you want to create, or select the category of your current website.
Highest Paying CPC Keywords2 for Google Adsense3) After you have selected a category, the list of keywords will be displayed in the main, center, window.  You’ll notice that the list of keywords contain columns providing information about competition, Global Monthly Searches and Local Searches.  The CPC data is not displayed by default.  Click on the columns button in the upper right hand corner of the keywords listing area, and you’ll see a drop down.  This is shown in the image below.  Check Estimated Avg CPC to include a new column in your data that will provide CPC data.
Highest Paying CPC Keywords3 for Google Adsense4) Now you should be see a listing of keywords, along with the number of searches, the competition and avg CPC data!  This is important information.  I usually click on the column header for CPC so that it will sort the list displaying the highest paying CPC keywords first.
Highest Paying CPC Keywords4 for Google Adsense5) You now have the steps necessary to find the highest CPC keywords from Google for Adsense.  Check out some other categories to see what the payout ranges are for various niches.
Bonus: Take a look at the competition column to find high paying keywords with low competition.  It will be easier to rank in Google for these keywords.

28K Per Month Authority Site Case Study

A while back I came across an auction on Flippa that really grabbed my attention. The auction was for a travel site that was earning around $12K per month over the past year and their most recent month’s earnings was almost $28K. Ultimately, the site ended up selling for $160,000 and had a TON of interest. While we weren’t planning to purchase the site, I wanted to see what we could learn from this site and auction and see if we could find a way to replicate some of the success. Here’s the link to the auction and here’s the link to the website that sold.
I first mentioned this auction in the Dynamite Circle and there was quite a bit of interest and I thought there might be some value in posting it here as well. I just wanted to mention a few of the key points I found particularly interesting and was hoping some of you might provide even more insight in the comments below.

Agoda logo

Agoda Affiliate Program

Wow, they’ve got a pretty sweet offer here. If you’ve spent any time in Asia you’re probably familiar with Agoda.com. Agoda is THE place to go to get the best deals on hotels in places like Singapore, Thailand, China, etc. I use them regularly and have a membership account with them that has earned me several nights of free accommodation over the last couple of years. What I didn’t know is that they have an affiliate program that pays anywhere from 35-60% of Agoda’s profit. While Agoda is definitely a cost leader when it comes to finding hotel discounts, it’s because they ferociously negotiate deals with the hotels and not because they’re cutting the hell out of their margins, so you have a reasonable amount left over to get paid.
Even more interesting – Agoda doesn’t require you to use an affiliate link! Instead of using some funny-looking affiliate link on your site you can link to any page on their site directly. You have to get your site approved first, but once approved, any traffic you send to Agoda can and will convert and it includes a 12 month cookie…so any purchases within 12 months would be included under your account. (Unless they wipe their cookies, of course) We think it’s a great approach to affiliate marketing and we’re surprised more affiliate companies aren’t doing this.

Low Leakage

If you take a look at the site, you’ll see that they provide a ton of content for searchers, but every link on every page I could find was either a payday link to Agoda or a link to additional content sources of theirs. (Facebook, other articles, etc.) While we don’t apply this strategy to AdSenseFlippers.com, we definitely apply this to our niche sites. (Aside from a few contextual outbound links to authority sites for good on-page SEO) The idea is that you don’t want anything clickable that doesn’t either get you paid or get the reader to continue to review content under your control.

High Quality Image Use

At the end of every article they have a few images and taglines to grab your attention. They use anything from stunning women to amazing travel destinations and beaches. Along with each image is a tagline in text below with an attention-grabbing headline. Click on either the image or the tagline and you’ll be sent over to Agoda and grab yourself a cookie that will get the site owner paid if you purchase. I’m guessing this is already done, but a really smart idea here would be to split-test various images and taglines to see exactly which images bring about the highest amount of clicks when matched with the taglines.

Interesting Way To Target Travel

Since we’re not talking about AdSense here, the goal should be to get as much traffic as possible that’s related to your monetization method. In this case, we see that the site owner has decided to target festivals, holidays, etc. He doesn’t care how many advertisers are in that particular space for the keywords, but knows that if he gets traffic from people that are looking for more information about a particular holiday in a country, there’s a fair likelihood that they’re going to be traveling there in the near future. This is a great way to snatch traffic that might be easier to rank for but is still tightly focused and monetizable. What I don’t understand, though, is why much of the content targets holidays in a particular year. It would seem to me more useful to target particularly holidays without a particular year attached so that the content remains good/relevant year after year. I’d imagine some of the content on this site would have diminishing returns over time.

Domain Didn’t Hold Them Back

If you didn’t know, Singapore is HAPPENING right now. We were in Singapore in November of last year and you can’t turn around without bumping into another expat in town on business. If I remember right, there are more expats living in Singapore than there are Singaporeans! The downside is that it’s expensive…REALLY expensive. We ended up staying in a hotel for $160/night and I’d say it was barely passable and well below the standards I’m used to in other SE Asian countries! To get a “nice” hotel in Singapore you’re looking at $300-$400 per night. Joe and I went out briefly on his first night in town. We ordered 2 beers and some hummus…the price? $40.00…ouch! With prices like that, it’s no surprise the site owner decided to target Singapore. A one-week stay at a “nice” hotel would ring up a $2,000+ charge!

Google decided to aggressively target private blog

Last week we saw some pretty major changes as Google decided to aggressively target private blog networks through deindexing and forced quite a few of them to close their doors, including BuildMyRank, a network we had used quite a bit lately. I won’t get too much into this (For more information, check out what Pat Flynn, Spencer Haws, and Trent Dyrsmid had to say about the issue) other than to say that we’ve slacked off on linkbuilding efforts recently and these latest changes have been a wakeup call for us to revamp our linkbuilding strategy moving forward.

Note: The linkbuilding strategy we’re laying out here is the plan we’re moving forward with as of this week, but this has not been tested and it remains to be seen how successful/unsuccessful this plan will ultimately be. We’ll definitely be checking back in and sharing results in the coming weeks and months.

Linkbuilding ROI
In the past we’ve tried to limit our linkbuilding spend to around $15.00 per site to keep our total costs per site to under $50.00 per site as laid out in our original linkbuilding strategy. There’s no particular reason we started out this way other than we hoped it would be effective, but we’ve come to find that we can expect our average site to eventually earn $9-10 per month on average. Our question is whether improved linkbuilding techniques would improve our ROI from the sites, so our intention is to test that out here. (We’re finding that our $$ per site, per month has actually slipped in recent months, but without holding onto the sites, it’s hard to say. We chalk this up to our cutback on linkbuilding a few months ago, for the most part.) Many others have used a much more expansive linkbuilding strategy than we have and their sites tend to earn quite a bit more as well. Could we do the same? SHOULD we?

We’re in talks with several different providers about a done-for-you service (One is from Virtual Miss Friday for SubmitYourArticle that would raise the cost per site by around $25-30 or so, to an overall site cost of $75-$80. Our costs would be significantly lower by performing this linkbuilding ourselves in-house, but it would require a significant increase to our staff for linkbuilding specifically. Our intention is to test out whether these improved links are worth it and, if they are, eventually bring the requisite staff in-house to take care of it for us. In the meantime, we’d like to take the new hires we’re interviewing and apply them to the process of creating more sites, not building out the sites that we have. It’s hard to find good staff, unfortunately, and we’re pretty choosy with our direct hires. We tried to use Virtual Staff Finder to find content agents in Davao and unfortunately, they thought that would be too limiting due to the geography and skillset. Ugh.

Concerns With Outsourced Linkbuilding
One of the concerns with outsourcing any of your linkbuilding to random websites or providers is that it requires you to reveal a significant portion of your niche site portfolio. This can be a bit uncomfortable, especially when you consider anyone that would understand the linkbuilding process for niche sites probably has their own portfolio of those niche sites as well. You also have to wonder…if they’re effective at building out and linking their own sites…how do they have the time to do the work on yours? When working with outsourced help for linkbuilding, we try to stick with providers or services that are extremely well established and even then we try to silo the work as best as possible between several providers.

What We Are No Longer Using
OnlyWire – We’ve used this in the past as a way to quickly get our sites indexed, but with the volume of sites we’re building we’re forced to create a ton of profiles on a bunch of different social sites to keep up and to separate the batches of niche sites. The rewards for this effort seem minimal at this point. While we may pick this up again in the future, we’re going to discontinue the use of OnlyWire for now. I do like and appreciate the effect of social signals, but I’m not sure this is the best way to go about it.

BuildMyRank – With the closing of their network, we won’t be looking for another private blog network to join. Google is aggressively targeting these done-for-you backlinking services and networks and we’d rather avoid this strategy for now. While there are definitely some private blog networks out there that are unaffected (and will remain that way as long as their owners keep them truly private) any blog networks that are public and actively recruiting new members will always be at risk, we think.

Our New Linkbuidling Plan And Tools
SubmitYourArticle.com (SYA) – We’d been using SYA for quite a while last year, but we ended up falling behind and ultimately stopped submitting articles through this service at the end of last year. In addition to just falling behind, one of the reasons we stopped using SYA was because we’d had quite a few articles denied and going through the process of fixing them and resubmitting was extremely time intensive. In looking at our post-November sites, we see that they don’t seem to be ranked as well across the board as our previous sites had been and we attribute this to our lack of article marketing.

We’ll be ordering original content for our SYA submissions (Through TextBroker and iWriter…click here for more on our content strategy and then having our agents use TheBestSpinner to put spintax on the articles and prep them for submission through SYA. Unfortunately, this is extremely time intensive. While we could use TheBestSpinner to automatically spin the content for the articles, we’ve found that the end result tends to be incredibly spammy and really not fit for human consumption. This ultimately causes us problems with the SubmitYourArticle editing process (and with ezinearticles as well) and is more hassle than it’s worth. We’ve found it better to have our agents go through the article and manually select the spins in TheBestSpinner so that we end up with a useable article at the end.

We’ll have our agents using this process and supplementing their work with a done-for-you service from Virtual Miss Friday I referenced above. We’ve timed this process and found that it takes approximately 3-4 hours per agent to complete a submission and we’re also paying for the original content as well. This means one of our agents can reasonably submit 2 articles per day or 10 articles per week. That means one agent can only keep up with about 20 sites created per week. We’ve temporarily assigned two agents to this project and will be catching up through the use of the done-for-you service providers.

UniqueArticleWizard.com (UAW) – This is another article directory submission tool very similar to SYA that will automatically submit your article to hundreds of article directories. While this service is probably more widely used than SYA, it’s new to us and I’ve been playing with it over the last week so that we can train our agents on how to use UAW to submit articles…or at least the linkbuilding manager. Ultimately, I don’t want to have to assign any agents to this and would rather use a done-for-you service to handle this for us. We’re looking at a couple of different people, both who we trust and know would do a good job on this particular project.

Unlike SYA, UAW requires one piece of original content and two additional re-writes that match, paragraph for paragraph. You’re allowed up to three links for each article, and we’ll be including 3 links in each of our UAW articles submitted. They use a mix of article directories and blogs that have opted-in to receive content, but each of the blog owners can decide certain thresholds, decline to accept content that isn’t readable, etc.

DoFollow Blog Commenting – This is something we’ve done for quite a while. I think our ROI on this is actually pretty limited, but we’re manually commenting on blogs after actually reading the content so our comments tend to stick. I think our real benefit here is that it just helps with link diversity. We’ll build 4-6 blog comments for each site and this is done by one of our agents part-time.

Varied Anchor Text
Recently, Matt Cutts from Google announced they would be targeting sites that were “over-optimized”. What did he mean by this? Well it’s definitely worth taking a look at your onsite SEO. Making sure that you’re not keyword stuffing and that your site has natural content that is built for visitors and not only search engines is a start. It’s also useful to link out to other authority sites in the niche, causing your site to be used as a hub of information. If your site only has inbound links and no outbound links it’s likely that doesn’t look as natural and definitely isn’t as helpful for users who find your site.

It’s also important to consider varying your anchor text links. Obviously, if 100% of your offsite SEO is building anchor text with the SAME anchors where ALL of them are to your homepage, that doesn’t look terribly natural. Our friends over at SEOMoz have a great video that explains the benefits of partial match anchor text:

It seems a bit crazy to us that partial match is actually BETTER, but these guys truly are the experts and know much more than we do about SEO.  In that vein, we’ve come up with the parameters we’ll be using to build article marketing links to our site:
  • 2 exact match anchor text to homepage (i.e. “blue ski boots” to blueskiboots.org)
  • 2 partial match anchor text to homepage (i.e. “cool blue boots” or “cheap ski boots” to blueskiboots.org)
  • 2 non-matched anchor text to homepage (i.e. http://blueskiboots.org or “click here” or “check this” to blueskiboots.org)
  • 2 partial match anchor text to inner pages (i.e. “cheap snow boots” to blueskiboots.org/discounts-on-snow-boots)
This means 75% of our links will be to the homepage with 25% of the links to inner pages.  25% of the links will be exact match, 50% will be partial match, and 25% will be non-matched.

Wrapping It Up

While we’re far from SEO experts, our intent was to show you an extremely low-budget option you can put together that will round out a linkbuilding strategy for your niche sites.  We generally try to avoid some of the more spammy options that are out there and we’re putting more emphasis in our new/improved strategy back into article marketing.  There have been some changes in SEO recently.  Nothing to be particularly alarmed about, but it’s just another change cycle we’re going through that requires webmasters and niche site builders to look for new ways to play an old game.

With these changes, I’ve read quite a few blog and forum posts where people are screaming and gnashing their teeth, saying the sky is falling and that SEO is dead.  We believe this fear-mongering is far from the truth and any experienced SEO expert will tell you this is just one of many changes and cycles we’ve seen over the last 6-10 years.

Lastly, I’d like to add that we’re looking for some SEO professionals to bring on the AdSense Flippers Podcast to discuss linkbuilding strategies for the types of niche sites we build.  There are plenty of people talking about how to build 2-Tier links and how to put more robust strategies together, but what about our little sites?  We’ve been dancing around with Joseph Archibald about having him on the show, but I thought I’d take this opportunity to call him out!  Joseph, buddy, we need your expertise!  Let’s set something up?

So there are plenty of you out there building niche sites and using backlinking strategies.  What have you found to be effective?  Don’t be shy…leave a comment and let us know what you’re working on!

How come my google adsense ads are just blank white spaces?

So tonight I signed up for google adsense through my blog on blogger. Google added the ads to my blog but said that the ads are just text ads for at least 48 hours while my account is being processed. I went to my blog to check out the ads and they weren’t there. I asked my sister to check out my blog on her computer and the ads didn’t show up on the blog. Why won’t they show up?

You need to wait untill your account is approved by google adsense. than ads appear on your blog automatically.
